The Westend Patron’s Opening Day (16 October 2016) was a real celebration of the Club and it’s people. From Life members to first year school rowers, the event highlighted the advantages and rewards of being part of a strong club. Having access to a great facility is obviously invaluable when you want to get to the top of your sport, but it is the people that make the difference. Old,young, Olympian, novice; there is always someone around to offer inspiration, support or just a friendly chat.
Olympians Mahe Drysdale and Stephen Jones shared some of their stories and tips, followed by the traditional boat race and dinner. This year, the crews were a mixture of school (Mt Albert Grammar, Baradene & St Peters) and Club rowers and the winning boat just happened to have three Baradene rowers … great effort girls!
A great event – thanks to everyone who played a part.
